Zootopia (titled Zootropolis in the UK and Zoomania in Germany) is a 2016 American 3D computer-animated buddy cop comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is the 55th Disney animated feature film, directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, co-directed by Jared Bush, and stars the voices of Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, Jenny Slate, Nate Torrence, Bonnie Hunt, Don Lake, Tommy Chong, J. K. Simmons, Octavia Spencer, Alan Tudyk, and Shakira. Taking place in the titular city where anthropomorphic mammals coexist, it tells a story of an unlikely partnership between a rabbit police officer and a red fox con artist, as they uncover a criminal conspiracy involving the disappearance of predators. Zootopia premiered at the Brussels Animation Film Festival in Belgium on February 13, 2016, and went into general theatrical release in Disney Digital 3-D, RealD 3D, IMAX 3D, and 4DX formats in the United States on March 4.

From the largest elephant to the smallest shrew, the city of Zootopia is a mammal metropolis where various animals live and thrive. When Judy Hopps becomes the first rabbit to join the police force, she quickly learns how tough it is to enforce the law. Determined to prove herself, Judy jumps at the opportunity to solve a mysterious case. Unfortunately, that means working with Nick Wilde, a wily everyman fox who makes her job even harder.

Why It Rocks

  1. It has incredibly solid animation and beautiful visuals that's on par with their sister studio, Pixar.
  2. It has really creative world-building that expands upon the world of Zootopia.
  3. Rich storytelling with very powerful and well-handed messages about believing in yourself, and following your dreams no matter what other people say.
  4. Michael Giacchino's musical score is amazing as you can hear respectively.
  5. It has smart and clever adult humor.
  6. Awesome and very strong characters like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.
  7. Even with the cute anthropomorphic animals, the film is surprisingly mature and not afraid to tackle the topics of racism in the USA, corruption in politics, and illegal production of drugs. This way the adults that were likely dragged into the theater by their children won't be bored by the movie because those topics can keep them engaged. And the best part is this is one of the few times in a late 2010's film in which it's social messages don't feel forced and therefore isn't just SJW pandering.
  8. Heartwarming and surprisingly scary scenes to fit the emotions, such Nick Wilde's childhood.
  9. Top-notch voice acting from talented actors, especially Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman.
  10. The action scenes are entertaining, especially the chase scenes.
  11. The song "Try Everything" is amazing.

Bad Qualities

  1. As was the twist with WALL-E and Frozen, Bellwether is a very weak and forced villain.
  2. Some product placement can be shown in the movie (though they do make animal parodies out of it).

Zootopia was considered by many to be the best animated film of 2016, which was a really strong year for animated films (even though it had many duds) with a praised its screenplay, animation, voice acting, subject matter, and Michael Giacchino's musical score. On the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 98% based on 283 reviews, with a weighted average rating of 8.07/10. The website's critical consensus reads: "The brilliantly well-rounded Zootopia offers a thoughtful, inclusive message that's as rich and timely as its sumptuously state-of-the-art animation—all while remaining fast and funny enough to keep younger viewers entertained.". The movie managed to win both the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature for 2016.

  • Zootopia was released in overseas territories in Feburary of 2016 before being released in March 4th in the United States of the same year.

I feel like this is a fusion of politics and Over the Hedge.

How are there politics in it?

Not necessarily politics, but it has a lot of animal racism as predators are seen as the dangerous species, and it feels like a combination with Over the Hedge. I'm not gonna start another fight like with Ralph Breaks the Internet, ok?

I saw this movie today on Disney Plus! I loved it! Though here's my unpopular opinion: I actually liked Bellwether as a twist villain, but that's just me, and I want to be open-minded.

My only real qualm besides the product placement (At least they're parodied) are the lack of reptiles, avians, fish, chiropteran (AKA bats; they're mammals too), insects, etc. in the movie.

No bias
