The Itsy Bitsy Spider is a 1992 American animated short film directed by Matthew O'Callaghan, written by Michael O'Donoghue and stars Frank Welker as the titular spider, and Thora Birch as Leslie McGroarty, who later became the main protagonist of the franchise. Based on the eponymous rhyme, the short film was released along with the film Bébé's Kids.

Why It Rocks

  1. A concept of the city girl and the harmless country spider is very good and appealing, in a favor to the different versions of one of Aesop's most beloved fables, The City Mouse and the Country Mouse.
  2. Matthew O'Callaghan did a very good job, doing his directorial debut.
  3. "He leaves me no alternatives, but to bomb the house."
  4. Unlike the TV series, as well as the entire franchise, Itsy was the main protagonist of this film.
  5. Best voice acting.
  6. Hyperion Animation's got the right tool to give the nursery rhyme a very humorous twist.
    • Speaking of which, Hyperion Animation got its very first chance to create a short film.
  7. It was a major improvement over Bébé's Kids, which is followed this film.
  8. The animation looks very smooth for the 1992-standards.
  9. A very heartwarming ending, with Leslie and Itsy going back home to the big city.
  10. Very unique sound design for the early-1990s standards.
  11. David Newman does the very good music score.
  12. Very touching references.
  13. A hilarious, kid-friendly blend of two of the most popular R-rated sci-fi movies, The Terminator and RoboCop.
  14. The character designs of Leslie and Itsy are very cute.
  15. Great story.
  16. Many funny moments, including the scene where Itsy scaring Adrienne Van Leydon.
  17. The success of the short film, launches the TV show on the USA Network. On top of that, Hyperion Animation decided to receive Leslie McGroarty a very true leading role, becoming Hyperion Animation's very first main female protagonist.
  18. Slapstick comedy moments with Langston, being attacked by the Exterminator.
    • In fact, the Exterminator's doing it, as he tripped into the dinner table.

Bad Qualities

  1. The scene, where Adrienne Van Leydon using many guns, can be too disturbing for a PG rating.
  2. An infamous gross-out humor scene, when the Exterminator, as a killer robot, poops out the bomb, and puking the rocket bomb out.

This film generally received positive reviews.
