Why It Rocks

  1. Breathtakingly beautiful animaiton.
  2. Unbelievably heartfelt, engaging, and tragic story about two lovers who are forced to be unhappy due to certain circumstances.  That's common with Makoto Shinkai's movies, and in this case it's because one of them is a teacher and the other is a student.
  3. Very appealing art style and character designs.
  4. Both of the lead characters, Takao Akizuki and Yukari Yukino, are incredibly likable.  This helps you feel the tragedy of their relationship.
  5. Outstanding soundtrack.
  6. This story is unique becuase there are literally only two characters in it, but despite that they're sitll able to carry everything.
  7. Excellent voice acting in both sub and dub.
  8. Great pacing.  One of the best aspects of the movies.  It's pretty short, only 46 minutes long, just barely a feature, which allows it to not overstay its welcome.  However it's not too short either so the emotion is able to get through without seeming rushed.

The Garden of Words has an 83% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a 3.5/5 on Letterboxd, a 7.6/10 on the International Movie Database (IMDB), an 8.26/10 on MyAnimeList, an 82.41% community approval rating on Kitsu, and a 4.1/5 on AnimePlanet.
