Son of Frankenstein is a German horror movie directed and produced by Rowlad V. Lee, written by Wyllis Cooper, and starring Borris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, and Basil Rathbone.  It was a sequel to Ghost of Frankenstein, and also the last time that Borris Karloff portrayed The Monster until Lon Chaney Jr. took over.

Why It Rocks

  1. Once again an excellent performance from Borris Karloff.  This was his last time playing the Monster.
  2. Great performance from Bela Lugosi as Ygor.  This is one of the few movies that he and Karloff did together where Lugosi was able to upstage Karloff.
  3. It implements very shrewd silliness, perpetrated by a good director in the best traditions of cinematic horror, so that even while you laugh at its nonsense you may be struck with the notion that perhaps that's as good a way of enjoying oneself at a movie as any.
  4. For a film of its kind, the production is good and of high technical quality.
  5. The writing was surprising with how good it was, considering that there's no more Marry Shelly source material left and that the director, James Whale, is gone, too.
