Evil Dead II, also known as Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn, is a 1987 horror/black comedy film. It was directed by Sam Raimi, written by Sam Raimi and Scott Spiegel, filmed by Peter Deming, musically composed by Joseph LoDuca, edited by Kaye Davis, produced by Robert Tapert, Alex De Benedetti, Irvin Shapiro, Rosebud Releasing and Renaissance Pictures, distributed by Rosebud Releasing, Embassy Communications, Palace Pictures and De Laurentiis Entertainment Group, and it starred Bruce Campbell, Sarah Berry, Dan Hicks, Kassie Wesley, and Richard Domeier. It was a sequel to The Evil Dead, and was later followed by Army of Darkness in 1991.

Why It Rocks

  1. Ash's character, played by Bruce Campbell, is improved a lot in this sequel.  In the first movie he was entertaining, but was overall a bit of a pushover. In this movie, however, the events of the first turned him into a gigantic badass, fearlessly taking on the forces of the dead without holding back.
  2. Amazing acting.
  3. The scene where Ash has a chainsaw attached to one hand and a shotgun in the other hand is the most stupidly awesome scene in the film.
  4. Great soundtrack.
  5. The cinematography in this movie is improved from the first. While the camera work in the first move was inventive, this one pushes it even further. There's some scenes where the camera breaks through the window of a car, or tracks the character all the way through the house without any cuts. Some of these tricks would later be used by director Sam Raimi in his Spider-Man movies.
  6. All of the demons look grotesque and awesome.
  7. Bruce Campbell is an absolute badass, especially when using the chainsaw.

Reception

Evil Dead II has a 98% "fresh" critic rating and a 89% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a 4.0 on Letterboxd, and a 7.8/10 on IMDb.
