20th Century Studios (also shortened to 20th Century and formerly known as 20th Century Fox before 2020) is an American film studio which is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Studios, a division of The Walt Disney Company. The studio is located on its namesake studio lot in the Century City area of Los Angeles. For over 83 years, it was one of the "Big Six" major American film studios formed from the merger of the Fox Film Corporation and Twentieth Century Pictures in 1935.
Why They’re So Foxy and Famous
- Dante's Inferno was the first film to be made by the studio, and that started it all... Fox style!
- Great films for their franchises, like The Simpsons Movie, Home Alone, The Sandlot, Planet of the Apes, Alien, Die Hard, Predator, Ice Age, Night at the Museum, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Anastasia, Rio, as well as other properties from Marvel Comics (X-Men, Daredevil, Deadpool, Fantastic Four) and Lucasfilm (the first six Star Wars films).
- They also produced some nice films that are either original or sequel for both live-action and animated such as Mrs. Doubtfire, Titanic, Free Guy, Avatar, Patton, Jennifer's Body, Anastasia, The Book of Life, Blue Sky films such as Robots, Horton Hears a Who!, Epic, The Peanuts Movie, Ferdinand, and Spies in Disguise), and Ron's Gone Wrong, as well as DreamWorks Animation films from 2013 to 2017.
- It spawned some merchandise based on the films such as books, video games, DVDs, clothes and more.
- It has its very own television network, the Fox Broadcasting Company.
- While they continued producing and distributing films, they still managed to loved every films for the decades.
- The logo itself is beautiful and realistic, and the accompanying fanfare was epic as well.
- It released some of the aforementioned films for their other studios like Blue Sky Studios, 20th Century (Fox) Animation, Fox 2000 Pictures, and (Fox) Searchlight Pictures.
- Even if they were brought by Disney and going downhill, they made plenty of great films.
- Along with Dreamworks, 20th Century (Fox) is the only studio who doesn't went before Disney shut down sadly.
- Because of their acquisition by Disney, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Deadpool and other characters related to them are now permitted to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
- The acquisition also reunites the first six Star Wars films with every Star Wars movie produced since The Force Awakens under the same roof since Fox distributed the original and prequel trilogy, and Disney distributed the sequel trilogy.
- Another consequence of this acquisition is that the titular character from Anastasia is now open to join the Disney Princesses, marking the first Disney Princess to be acquired and the first Russian Disney Princess, first Slavic Disney Princess and the first Disney Princess to come from Eastern Europe.
Bad Qualities
- Some of their films aren't that great like the films described above, such as Cheaper by the Dozen and its sequel, the live-action Alvin and the Chipmunks quadrilogy, both Percy Jackson movies, Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans, Vampires Suck, Garfield: The Movie, Freddy Got Fingered, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, A Troll in Central Park, Glitter, Paper Towns, Kung Pao! Enter the Fist, Speed 2: Cruise Control, Home Alone 3, Home Sweet Home Alone, Alien 3 and Resurrection, Dragonball: Evolution, The Happening, the 2001 remake of Planet of the Apes, the 2006 remake of The Omen, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Dark Phoenix, The Darkest Minds, the 2015 remake of Fantastic Four and Poltergeist, Elektra, Ice Age: Collision Course, Independence Day: Resurgence, Wing Commander, A Good Day to Die Hard and Fat Albert.
- Some of their films, even during COVID-19 and before Disney brought the company, were box office bombs.
- Some of their films like Anastasia were butchered through horrible Broadway adaptations, like how the costumes were changed from colorful flowy costumes to more historically accurate dresses, Rasputin was taken out in favor of Gleb Vaganov, and all the animal characters and magic were removed in favor of historical accuracy, which was only done to appease Russian Orthodox Christians.
- 20th Century Fox has been a very iconic name for such a long time, but in very early 2020, Disney changed it to the less iconic 20th Century Studios. Disney's short-sighted reasoning for this was that they wanted to steer people away from the Fox Corporation (AKA New Fox), which is inexcusable as 20th Century Fox was the first to bear the Fox name. There was no discernible reason for Disney to do that.
Trivia
- In 1985, the studio was acquired by News Corporation. The studio was succeeded by 21st Century Fox on June 28, 2013, following the spin-off of its publishing assets.
- According to Disney CEO Bob Iger, Disney had purchased 20th Century Fox with Disney+ in mind.
